Kneecap have teamed up with Sub Focus for their fiery new single, ‘No Comment’.
In a statement, the band said of the track in a press release: “No comment is all about getting harassed by the British State. Simple as. Us Irish are well used to it, been happening for centuries. Was a pleasure to work with Sub Focus on this, the man is a legend.”
Additionally, they wrote of ‘No Comment’ in a social media post, “It’s all about the police witch-hunt against Mo Chara. Free Palestine. Free the 6 counties. Fuck the peelers.”
Kneecap continued, “We’re playing it live on our current sold out tour across Europe, Scotland, Wales and England.”
‘No Comment’ is the first release from Kneecap since Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known by his stage name Mo Chara, had the terror charge against him dropped in late September.
He was initially charged in May and appeared in court for the first time in June before a subsequent hearing in August. Óg Ó hAnnaidh later attended Woolwich Crown Court on September 26th when Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring threw out the case.
After the case was thrown out, Óg Ó hAnnaidh said: “This entire process was never about me, never about any threat to the public and never about ‘terrorism’, a word used by your government to discredit people you oppress.”
He continued, “It was always about Gaza. About what happens if you dare to speak up. As people from Ireland we know oppression, colonialism, famine and genocide. We have suffered and still suffer under ‘your empire’. Your attempts to silence us have failed, because we are right, and you are wrong. We will not be silent. We said we would fight you in your court and we would win. We have.”
The Crown Prosecution Service has since confirmed plans to appeal the judge’s decision to dismiss the case.
Kneecap are currently on the road until the end of 2025 with two huge dates planned at Dublin’s 3Arena next month to conclude the run, which also includes two dates at Manchester Academy and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
