Kendrick Lamar was set to release his debut movie this summer, but it has now been pushed back until 2026. The delay comes after the initial release date and title were announced last month.

Titled White Springs, the film is produced by Kendrick, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and K. Dot affiliate Dave Free. It was initially set to be released via Paramount Plus on July 11th, 2025, but will now arrive on March 20th, 2026.

The live-action comedy is said to “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young black man, who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”

A poster for the movie listed Kendrick as an actor alongside Chloe East, best known for her roles in The Fabelmans and Heretic, and Celeste Octavia. Parker directed the film, and Vernon Chatman wrote the script.

The change in release plans, reported by Deadline, was revealed before CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theatre owners in Las Vegas this week.

Speaking on White Springs, Paramount Pictures’ president and CEO, Brian Robbins, previously said in a statement, “On behalf of Paramount Pictures and the wider ViacomCBS family, we look forward to ushering in the first theatrical collaboration from these creative visionaries, and galvanising audiences worldwide around a powerful storytelling experience.”

Robbins claimed Chatman’s script was “one of the funniest and original scripts” he’d ever read. Filming began in October 2024 in Pomona, California.

Kendrick will be on the road throughout spring and summer, starting his Grand National Tour with SZA in Minnesota on April 19th before concluding in Stockholm on August 9th.
