Julien Baker and Torres have announced details of their debut album, Send a Prayer My Way, which will be released on April 18th.
The official news comes after the duo had been dropping hints and shared their first single, ‘Sugar in the Tank’. Baker and Torres also performed their debut single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which led to more excitement about their pending debut album. The track, ‘Sugar in the Tank’, is a traditional country music offering that has charted well and created significant buzz.
The two have been working on this album together since 2016. Apparently, after they finished performing, one singer turned to the other and they decided, “You know, we should make a country album.”
The album promises to pair themes of love and admiration to show listeners that, regardless of their situation, nobody can ever be totally alone in the world. To convey this message effectively, the duo released a new sweet-sounding single, ‘Sylvia’, about the morning Torres went to pick up her dog.
“The morning I went to pick up my dog Sylvia from an upstate shelter, I was at home making my coffee and I turned on WFMU and Dolly Parton’s ‘Cracker Jack’ was on,” she said in a press statement, “I burst into tears—it felt like the universe was telling me she was going to be mine.”
Torres continued, “I remember thinking that I’d love to write a song like that, a song that people could feel in their chest within five seconds of turning on the radio, because anyone who has ever had the honour of sharing a home with a beloved pet knows that a pet is family.”
Send a Prayer My Way is set for release on April 18th, 2025, through Matador Records.
