Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham are set to reunite once again for a sequel to Layer Cake.

The upcoming project marks the sixth time that the director and actor have worked together, following collaborations Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver, Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune.

Their next movie is Viva La Madness, and is based on JJ Connolly’s 2011 novel of the same name, which he wrote as a sequel to Layer Cake. However, per Variety, Viva La Madness will be a standalone film rather than a direct sequel to Layer Cake, despite the two novels being connected.

Matthew Vaughn was the director behind the 2004 adaptation of Layer Cake, which starred Daniel Craig, Colm Meaney, Sienna Miller and Kenneth Cranham. It also did not feature Statham, who is set to lead the cast in Ritchie’s new movie.

Production will begin in January 2026, and currently, Statham is the only actor attached to the project which Ritchie will write and direct.

The official blurb for Viva La Madness from publisher Duckworth Books reads: “Hiding out in the Caribbean until the heat dies down from his last job, X is thinking it’s time to ditch the resort life and calls up his old friend Morty to plot his return to London.”

It continues: “But he’s hardly stepped off the plane when his associates, Sonny King and Roy ‘Twitchy’ Burns, get on the wrong side of a feuding Venezuelan drug cartel on the hunt for a sensitive package. Suddenly he’s thrown into a stand-off between rival mobs and with so many players in the game it’s tough going making out who wants to cut him a deal and who’s trying to kill him.”

There is no current timeline for when Viva La Madness will be released in cinemas.
