Jason Isaacs brands ‘The White Lotus’ equal pay revelation as “crappy clickbait”

Despite revealing very cast member in The White Lotus was paid $40,000 per episode, Jason Isaacs has hit back at what he branded a “crappy clickbait alert.”

The actor was speaking in a recent interview with Vulture when he revealed the pay for the show, which concluded its third series earlier this year. Noting that the fee was actually “a very low price,” Isaacs said: “Generally actors don’t talk about pay in public because it’s ridiculously disproportionate to what we do — putting on makeup and funny voices — and just upsets the public.”

He added: “But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that’s a very low price. But the fact is, we would have paid to be in it. We probably would have given a body part.”

Addressing the level playing field that the equal pay created between established actors like himself and new rising stars in the series, Isaacs noted: “Do I mind that I wasn’t paid more than other people? I never work for money.”

Explaining his own financial situation, he continued: “I’ve done all right. People will think I have huge stockpiles of money but sadly, what I’ve done rather immaturely is expand my outgoings to match my incomings and pretty much spent everything I’ve earned over the years.”

However, the actor later hit back after these comments were circulated on social media, taking to X on June 16th to post: “Crappy clickbait alerts: I absolutely didn’t ‘reveal’ how much we all earned on White Lotus. My interviewer knew the amount and I said no, I didn’t mind that everyone got the same. Actually I liked it. I’d never complain in public compared to nurses, teachers etc – it’s obscene.”

It comes shortly after the prolific drama that plagued the promotion of the most recent series of The White Lotus was finally put to bed, with Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins quashing rumours of a feud by completing a joint interview in which they said: “We care deeply for each other.”
