Jane’s Addiction members appear to make new music without Perry Farrell

After a performance in Boston last September ended in an onstage brawl, with Perry Farrell attacking Dave Navarro, LA alt-rock icons Jane’s Addiction seem to be working on new material without their former frontman. Although it is not yet confirmed whether this new music will be released under the Jane’s Addiction name, Eric Avery, Dave Navarro, and Stephen Perkins are certainly working on something.

Back in September 2024, Jane’s Addiction were performing at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston. During the show, Farrell became increasingly frustrated with his bandmates – spurred on by a sore throat and tinnitus, according to his wife – which eventually led him to attack guitarist Dave Navarro. After the band’s crew broke up the brawl, the show promptly ended.

At the time, the band issued an apology to concertgoers but quickly cancelled the remainder of their tour. “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.” For many fans, it was assumed that this period of hiatus would also spell the end of Jane’s Addiction as a band.

Now, however, the band, minus Farrell, have been working on new material. Avery all but confirmed this fact on his social media channels, posting himself working on recording a bass line, accompanied by the caption, “Writing some more new lines to some of Stephens drumming. Look forward to getting some Mr Navarro on them. 2025!”

Before the Boston debacle and subsequent break-up, Avery had shared, “If there is a Jane’s Addiction in 2025, then there will be new music for sure.’ But you just never know if there’s going to be a band at all,” during an interview with BassPlayer

There is some speculation that the three bandmembers will revive their Deconstruction side project rather than release this new work under the Jane’s Addiction name. At this point, it is not fully clear how much contact the members still have with their former singer, Perry Farrell.

Where is Perry Farrell?

Following the hiatus of the band, Perry Farrell has been very reserved, rarely making public appearances or posting to his social media channels. Following the Boston performance, he released a statement apologising for the incident. “This weekend has been incredibly difficult, and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” the statement reads.

“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation,” the singer concluded. His wife, Etty Lau Farrell also posted a statement to social media, sharing, “Perry already has appointments with an otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”
