Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has admitted to being none the wiser regarding the details of the hit HBO show’s third season and whether it’ll even happen.

The second series of Euphoria ran in early 2022, and since then, the third batch of episodes has been subject to many different delays, such as the Hollywood strikes. However, last month, in a statement, HBO announced that filming is set to commence for the highly-anticipated series in 2025.

In a statement, HBO’s Vice President, Francesca Orsi, revealed, ”I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”

Initially, filming had been scheduled for May, 2024. However, two months before the cast were set to reconvene, it was abruptly postponed. Actors in Euphoria were also given permission to seek other roles due to their calendar no longer being occupied.

While recent developments suggest that the third season has been moving in a promising direction, new comments from Schafer imply that it’s not as advanced as HBO previously claimed. “The real tea is I have no fucking idea what’s going on, and you can ask literally all of the cast,” the actor revealed on Call Her Daddy.

Schafer also said that “everyone feels a certain sense of anticipation for if we are supposed to do season three”. Furthermore, she referenced the death of star Angus Cloud, adding, “Obviously I’m still coming to qualms about what’s happened and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything. If we do go back, that’s going to be tough.”

The actor further played down the likelihood of a third season, by stating, “I think there’s a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season three if it is supposed to happen, but I think that shit really threw everyone for a loop.”

Schafer concluded by saying, “And then there’s all these industry whatever political things that go into whether or not this is happening, but that’s emotionally … a big part of what’s happening, too.”

Due to the time delay, it had been mooted that the third series of Euphoria will incorporate a five-year jump, taking the characters out of high school, and following their lives as young adults. However, as Levinson is still working on the script, nothing has been confirmed about the storyline.

Furthermore, earlier this year, Sydney Sweeney revealed her desire to return to the programme despite now being one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents. “Cassie truly is a dream to play, and as an actor, I’m so fortunate that I’ve had a character like her at such a young age,” she said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And, of course, I wanna keep living her crazy. I love it.”
