According to organiser Billy McFarland, Fyre Festival 2 is set to go ahead next month in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen. However, restrictions imposed by local authorities could thwart McFarland’s plans.
Last week, the Playa del Carmen government issued a statement on social media in Spanish, which translated into English, reads, “In light of rumours about an event called ‘Fyre 2’, we inform you that no event with that name will be held in Playa del Carmen. After a responsible review, there is no registration or planning in the municipality.”
It continued, “This government acts with responsibility and commitment to safety, public order, and social coexistence.” It also stated that “institutional channels” would be used for any further information on the subject.
In response, McFarland issued proof of their license from Playa del Carmen officials on social media. While it does state they have permission to hold the event at Martina Beach Club, only 250 people are allowed to enter the venue, and they are only permitted to play music for four hours each day. It was previously announced that Fyre Festival 2 would cater for 1,800 people.
Another issue is live music. McFarland previously promised that 40 live acts would perform at Fyre Festival 2, however, no artists have been announced so far. A possible explanation for the lack of a line-up is a permit obtained on March 26th that only allows for recorded music to be played rather than live performers.
Additionally, tickets for Fyre Festival 2 are no longer available from their official ticket partner, Soldout.com.
Despite speculation to the contrary, McFarland continues to insist that Fyre Festival 2 will take place in Playa del Carmen from May 30th until June 2nd, 2025.
