Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten has unexpectedly appeared in Jade’s music video for her debut solo single, ‘Angel Of My Dreams’.

The former Little Mix star, Jade Thirlwall, launched her highly-anticipated solo career as Jade on July 19th. Her new track is already speeding up the charts, and is currently placed in fifth position during the midweek update.

Chatten’s appearance in the video, which has already been watched over 2.5 million times on YouTube, is only fleeting. However, it’s more than just another cameo and curiously connects to Fontaines D.C.’s video for their triumphant comeback single ‘Starburster’. In the visuals by the Irish band, Chatten arrives in a photography studio where he’s surrounded by various dancers and an angel, which was later revealed to be played by Thirlwall.

Now, in the video for ‘Angel Of My Dreams’, viewers revisit the same scene, but this time, it’s explored from the perspective of Thirlwall rather than Chatten. It’s an unlikely collaboration which adds an extra layer of intrigue to each of the respective music videos and helps build this widened world around ‘Starburster’, as well as ‘Angel Of My Dreams’.

Although Thirlwall’s face was obscured during her appearance in the visuals for ‘Starburster’, she later shared an image of herself at Glastonbury Festival wearing a t-shirt which reads, “I’m in a Fontaines D.C. video”. The post was also shared on Instagram by Chatten. It is speculated that he may well appear in even more videos to come.

Explaining the meaning behind her new video, Jade said: “There’s 11 looks in the video! The concept is sort of rags to riches It was emotional actually because for one bit I’m busking and walking past a Sainsbury’s Local. When I was 16, I would stand outside my local Sainsbury’s and sing Christmas songs.”

The singer also said of the track: “I didn’t want to do a safe first single, that was really important to me. I’m setting the tone of who I am as an artist on my own. I want people to hear it and be like ‘what the fuck is that song?’. My worst nightmare is for someone to hear my song and go ‘that’s nice’.”

Fontaines D.C. are set to release their fourth album, Romance, on August 23rd. They recently headlined the Park Stage at Glastonbury Festival, and are set to take flight on an arena tour later this year, concluding with two hometown shows at the 3Arena in Dublin.

In addition to lead single ‘Starburster’, Fontaines D.C. have also shared ‘Favourite’ from Romance. In a four-and-a-half star review of the track, Far Out wrote: “Abandoning the trip-hop influences and harsh gasps of lead single ‘Starburster’, the band return to a more classic iteration of the genre, to jangly guitars and lyrics steeped in nostalgia. It’s the sonic equivalent of a drive through familiar roads with your hometown friends in the summer breeze and the sudden realisation that it won’t last forever.”
