Dolly Parton has continued reflecting on the death of her late husband Carl Dean, saying that he “suffered a great deal” before his passing.
Dean passed away at 82 years old on March 3rd, and now, Parton told Knox News of her ongoing grief after losing him: “I’m at peace that he’s at peace, but that don’t keep me from missing him and loving him.”
It comes as the singer has begun making public appearances again after the tragedy. Two weeks later, she graced crowds ahead of the opening of her theme park, Dollywood, in Tennessee, telling fans: “Of course I will always love him, and I’ll miss him, but I wanted you to know that I will always love you.”
Elsewhere in her latest interview, Parton described the magnitude of her loss by saying: “I’m doing better than I thought I would. I’ve been with him 60 years. So, I’m going to have to relearn some of the things that we’ve done. But I’ll keep him always close.”
“It’s a hole in my heart,” the singer continued, “but we’ll fill that up with good stuff and he’ll still always be with me.”
Parton announced her husband’s death at the start of the month via a statement on Instagram, which read: “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
She also released a new song, ‘If You Hadn’t Been There’, in tribute to Dean on March 7th, of which she said: “I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old. We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.”
