Blondie singer Debbie Harry has admitted she is unsure whether the band will tour again.
In April, the group’s drummer, Clem Burke, sadly died aged 75 following a private battle with cancer. Before his death, he completed work on the band’s forthcoming album, High Noon, which is set for release in 2026.
In addition to the loss of Burke, Blondie’s Chris Stein, who also played on High Noon and continues to contribute to their studio work, hasn’t played live with the band since 2019.
Therefore, Harry is unsure she wants to play live with Blondie again without having Stein or Burke with her on-stage.
In a new interview with Consequence, Harry explained, “I feel, I have, I don’t know if you want to call them scruples, but, you know, I sort of reject the idea of being Blondie without the rest of Blondie.”
She added, “At least some of it, you know? And, you know, Clem and Chris were fundamental, and the three of us were fundamental. And, I don’t know, I’ll have to figure out how to do it nicely.”
Harry elaborated, “I want to feel comfortable about the identities, as well, as everyone else does. So, you know, the guys that we’ve been working with for the past, I don’t know, five or six years actually, they’ve been with us quite awhile, and have, you know, contributed heavily to the tracks that are on High Noon. So I want to make it so they feel some pride and identity, because they’ve put a lot into it, and I don’t know how that’s going to work out.’
As it stands, there is no precise release date for High Noon, which will be the 12th album of the legendary band’s career.
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times in September, Harry said, “It’s a very traditional Blondie album”, and explained that “our tradition has always been to cover a lot of different styles and to embody some different moods”.
