David Squires delves into… the best TV moments of the year

As the Gregorian calendar looks to whittle away, there is something comforting about sitting in front of the illuminating box in the corner of our lives, brightening the darkness outside and bringing us the best TV the world has to offer.

Another facet of the year coming to a close is that we are all intensely hit with a serious dedication to chronicling our last 12 months. Whether it is with diarised social media posts or by compiling list upon list upon list in an attempted to wrap up the year and bury it like a mummified corpse of culture.

Thankfully, we have plenty of opportunities to do so this year, with Far Out giving you the rundown of the best and worst moments of the year. But we also have our very own cartoonist, David Squires, to pitch in and provide his favourite TV moments of the year.

A range of now-cancelled dramas may have hampered his year’s TV-watching, but Squires found himself on the couch to catch the big moments from the major shows of the year.

The wonderful Andor, the magnificent Last One Laughing, the growing funghi revolution in The Last of Us, and the return of the Gruffalo to an FBI case in Task were just some of the series watched. The sci-fi brilliance of Alien Earth also features, as does the widely praised and awarded Adolescence. And there was also probably the scariest moment in TV history, the FIFA World Cup draw.

Another year down and another year’s worth of TV to catch up on.
