Critics Choice Awards 2025: The full list of nominations
(Credits: The Critics’ Choice Awards)
The nominations for the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards have been unveiled, with Conclave and Wicked storming ahead of the pack with 11 nominations each. The ceremony is set to take place on January 12th 2025.
Wicked and Conclave both received the most nominations, with shouts across 11 categories, including ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Cinematography’, and ‘Best Production Design’, along with nominations for their cast in respective gender categories. For Wicked, both stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande received nominations in the respective categories of ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress’, while Conclave saw Ralph Fiennes get a nomination for ‘Best Actor’.
Following closely behind with ten nominations each were Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez. Both also received a ‘Best Picture’ nomination making for a fierce category. Other nominations in the group are A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance.
The Substance is another film with a strong batch of nominations for across the team. Both Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley received nominations as well as Coralie Fargeat who is up for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. The film’s behind-the-scenes team were also recognised as it’s incredible FX makeup and striking visuals got it nominated for ‘Best Hair and Makeup’ and ‘Best Visual Effects’.
Timothee Chalamet is continuing his streak of nominations. Following his nomination for ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’ at the Golden Globes, his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown has also earned him a ‘Best Actor’ nod. Alongside him and Fiennes in that category is Daniel Craig for his role in Queer, Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, Colman Domingo for Sing Sing and Hugh Grant for his creepy lead in Heretic.
Which major movies were snubbed by the Critics Choice?
Notable, there are no nominations for The Apprentice for the Critic Choice Awards despite the Golden Globes giving the controversial Donald Trump biopic several honours. While both Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong received Golden Globes shouts in acting categories, neither the cast nor crew were acknowledged here.
Joker: Folie à Deux is another name missing from the list, solidifying its position as both a commercial and critical failure. Its cast and team also missed out on any nominations both here and at the Golden Globes.
Who is hosting the Critics Choice Awards?
As another night in the busy awards season calendar, the Critics Choice Awards will be a star-studded affair as many of the nominees will be in attendance at the ceremony in January 2025.
Chelsea Handler, the American TV presenter, will be hosting the gala which will be broadcast live on E! on Sunday, January 12th, 2025 at 7:00 – 10:00pm ET, which is midnight in the UK.
