With the Cannes Film Festival beginning next month, the whole line-up has officially been announced, including movies from Julia Ducournau, Kelly Reichardt and Wes Anderson.

The 78th Festival will be taking place from May 13th to May 24th. The announcement comes after it was confirmed earlier this week that Tom Cruise’s new film Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will premiere at the festival, and Robert De Niro will be awarded an honorary Palm d’Or.

Leave One Day, directed by Amélie Bonnin is the opening film for the festival, which marks the director’s feature debut. Many major directors are premiering new films as part of the competition, with Joachim Trier screening his latest project Sentimental Value, starring Renate Reinsve, who last appeared at the festival for The Worst Person in the World and won the award for ‘Best Actress’.

Kelly Reichardt, the independent director behind films like Certain Women, Wendy and Lucy and Showing Up will premiere her next film The Mastermind, starring Josh O’Connor. As well as this, Richard Linklater’s latest project Nouvelle Vague will also premiere as part of the official competition. Fellow American directors Ari Aster and Wes Anderson will also premiere new projects, titled Eddington and The Phoenician Scheme.

Julia Ducournau’s Alpha will also premiere at the festival, which is her first project since the release of Titane, which captivated audiences during the 2021 festival. South African director Oliver Hermanus will release his highly-anticipated gay romance musical The History of Sound, starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor.
