British actor Paul Danan, best known for appearing in the soap opera Hollyoaks, has died aged 46.

Danan’s death has been announced by his management. In a statement, they shared: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.”

They continued: “His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him. During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.”

At this stage, no cause of death has been provided.

In addition to appearing in Hollyoaks as Sol Patrick between 1997 and 2001, Danan also featured in a series of reality shows including Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother.

Danan had been open about his struggles with drugs and alcohol in the past, going to rehab on 17 occasions. In 2024, he was admitted to hospital after suffering respiratory failure regarding vaping, describing his usage as “obsessive”.

He told The Sun on Sunday of the health scare: “I was dead – it’s a miracle I’m here. I’m upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed. My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital.”

After relapsing on cocaine during lockdown, Danan embraced sobriety and started the Morning After drama school in Bristol for those also in recovery.

In an interview with the Weston Mercury, Danan proudly said of the free-to-attend drama school, “This is my calling. It provides a community, since connection is the opposite to addiction. It gives people a healthy escape.”

Danan’s acting work also including the 2004 gangster film, One Man and his Dog, as well as the TV series, The Good Girls Club.
