Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks to reunite on the big screen to bring The Mummy franchise back from the dead.

Fraser led the trio of movies made in 1999, 2001, and 2008, while Weisz starred in the first two alongside the leading man.

Radio Silence, the studio behind the recent Scream movies, will direct, having suitable prior experience revitalising a killer franchise.

Sean Daniel, who produced the original movies with his late partner James Jacks, will return as producer. He will be joined by Radio Silence collaborators William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, “one source describes the project as not a reboot, but rather a sequel that would disregard the events of the third movie.”

Fraser has spoken about his destructive experience filming the action franchise and the toll it took on his body as he pushed himself too hard.

He shared previously, “By the time I did the third Mummy picture in China, I was put together with tape and ice—just, like, really nerdy and fetishy about ice packs. Screw-cap ice packs and downhill-mountain-biking pads, ’cause they’re small and light and they can fit under your clothes. I was building an exoskeleton for myself daily.”

His career was recently revitalised in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. In a four-star review of the film, Far Out praised his acting, writing, “In The Whale, Fraser has asserted his rightful claim to be uttered in the same breath as some of his most talented contemporaries. Not just that, he has also illuminated the same attention to craft for which the likes of Christian Bale and Daniel Day-Lewis are famed.”

Weisz has enjoyed a consistently successful career. In recent years, the actor starred in Amazon Prime Video’s gender-swapped TV version of Dead Ringers and co-starred in Marvel’s Black Widow.
