Bob Vylan has hit back at British Airways after the company pulled their funding from the Louis Theroux podcast in response to Vylan’s recent interview.
Earlier this week, Bob Vylan appeared on the Louis Theroux podcast to discuss the hugely controversial set on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury, where they criticised the BBC for their complicity in the Palestinian Genocide, condemned the UK and US government, and chanted “death death to the IDF”.
During the show, Dylan told Theroux that, no hesitation, he “would do it again. I’m not regretful of it. I’d do it again tomorrow, twice on Sundays. I’m not regretful of it at all, like the subsequent backlash that I’ve faced. It’s minimal. It’s minimal compared to what people in Palestine are going through.”
Subsequently, on October 26th, British Airways announced that it had withdrawn its adverts from the podcast, saying that the content breached its sponsorship policy.
As per The Guardian, a British Airways spokesperson explained, “Our sponsorship of the series has now been paused and the advert has been removed.”
They went on to state clearly that “the content clearly breaches our sponsorship policy in relation to politically sensitive or controversial subject matters.”
Now, the punk duo has taken to X to respond to the news. “Make no mistake, this is a scare tactic. I went on the podcast, and as hard as the lobby groups and media tried, they couldn’t twist anything I said,” they wrote.
The short post continued, “So they have resorted to lobbying for Louis’ sponsorship to be pulled in an attempt to scare others out of giving me a platform.”
They have also deemed the revocation of their US visas a “scare tactic”.
In the aftermath of their Glastonbury performance, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau took to X to publicly reveal that they have “revoked the US visas for the members of the Bob Vylan band in light of their hateful tirade at Glastonbury, including leading the crowd in death chants.”
Vylan added: “They thought they were going to get a dumb angry punk ranting. Instead they got articulate and considered responses to each question with facts to back it up when needed. Their hope to further vilify me couldn’t run, so they target Louis to make an example for sitting with me”.
Vylan concluded, “The lobby groups, the British government and media are determined to make an example of me, all because I dare to want an end to a genocidal occupying force guilty of war crimes”.
Louis Theroux is yet to respond to the development.
