Apple cancel plans for George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s ‘Wolfs’ sequel

Apple have scrapped plans for a sequel to Jon Watts’ action comedy flick Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Wolfs hit cinemas briefly earlier this year on September 20th, before arriving on Apple TV+ for fans to stream shortly afterwards. The film stars Clooney and Pitt as two fixers tasked to cover up a murder together. The pair previously worked together on-screen in the beloved heist movie trilogy, Ocean’s Eleven. Austin Abrams, Richard Kind and Frances McDormand also star in supporting roles.

Talks of a sequel had been underway before Wolfs even arrived in theatres, but they have now been put to a swift halt. After the film received a fairly middling response, Apple seem to have cancelled their plans for a follow-up film.

During an interview with Collider about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Watts spoke about his plans for the future and the unlikelihood of a Wolfs sequel. “I don’t know what I’m directing next,” he admitted, “and I don’t think there’s going to be a Wolfs sequel.”

Although viewers didn’t necessarily shower Wolfs in praise, the film did seem to be a success for Apple TV+. Not long after the film premiered on the streaming service, Apple TV+ announced that it was the most-viewed feature film in the history of the platform.

“When George, Brad and John approached us with the idea for Wolfs,” shared Apple TV+’s Matt Dentler at the time, “It was an easy call – a crackling, fun movie starring two Oscar winners who everyone knows are iconic together. Now, audiences have chosen in droves to make Wolfs part of their weekend, making the movie a global blockbuster.”

Despite the success of the film on the platform in terms of viewing figures, Apple now seem to have pulled back from the project.

Meanwhile, Watts is currently promoting his new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, which is set to arrive on Disney+ next month. The show stars Jude Law and is scheduled for release on the streaming service on December 3rd.

Pitt has several films in the works, including Joseph Kosinski’s F1, which focuses on the title sport, and Chris Columbus’ The Thursday Murder Club, which is based on the Richard Osman novel of the same name.

Clooney is set to link up with director and writer Noah Baumbach next year amidst a star-studded cast featuring Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Isla Fisher and more. Fellow director and Baumbach’s partner, Greta Gerwig, also appears amidst the cast list.
