This week, Sinners became the most-nominated film of all time at the Oscars. But British actor Delroy Lindo wasn’t quite ready for the huge news and was in bed when he found out the Academy had nominated him.
Lindo has been nominated in the ‘Best Supporting Actor‘ category, alongside Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn for their roles in One Battle After Another, Jacob Elordi for his role in Frankenstein, and Stellan Skarsgård for his role as the absentee father in Sentimental Value.
Speaking with E! News, Lindo recalled the moment that he was nominated for the incredible award: “I was in bed,” he admitted.
He added, “My phone rang. It was my son. I picked it up and said, ‘Hey man,’ and he said, ‘Dad, dad, you got it. You got that shit.’”
In the vampire movie, Lindo plays the blues musician Delta Slim; however, there was nothing blue about this cause for celebration.
The 73-year-old emphasised that his son was “very excited,” before adding, “It means the world because he’s seen it all. He’s seen it away from the red carpet. He’s seen both sides of it. So, along with my wife, they have the internal and the external perspective on this journey. It felt completely right on to receive this news from my son.”
Sinners also took home nods for the likes of ‘Best Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actress’, as well as ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Original Score’, and a nod in the newly-created ‘Best Casting’ category.
Trailing behind Sinners this year is Paul Thomas Anderson’s thrilling One Battle After Another, which received 13 Oscar nominations.
Far Out deemed Sinners the 12th best movie of 2025, observing, “The layers of history, folklore, and genre make Sinners an instant entry into any film school syllabus, but it is also a pure, unadulterated piece of filmmaking spectacle. There is a scene in which Coogler and cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw show the musical thread connecting the past, present, and future.”
The Oscars will take place on March 15th. Watch the official Sinners trailer below.
