Sam Rockman, the photographer in residence at Abbey Road Studios, has opened a one-day exhibition to highlight his work.

The showcase is taking place today (January 13th) at the iconic recording studios in London, where some of the world’s most famous artists of all time, ranging from The Beatles to Amy Winehouse, have all taken to the sound booth and created hits that will live forever.

Rockman is currently working as Abbey Road’s esteemed photographer in residence, having previously been a finalist in two categories at the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards in 2023.

His visceral eye for capturing the combined essence of the sonic and photographic worlds has seen him take the images of a litany of iconic and emerging artists, including the likes of Robert Smith, Bobby Gillespie, Divorce, English Teacher, and Fiona Lee.

Speaking exclusively about the exhibition to Far Out, Rockman said: “Working at Abbey Road Studios has been amazing. I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve spent in the building and it’s been incredible to be surrounded by so much music, talent and history.”

He added: “This year has been a huge part of my growth, giving me the chance to develop my skills photographing musicians in the studio and capturing portraits outside the building. It’s been a genuinely valuable experience and has strengthened my portfolio in ways I couldn’t have planned.”

Beyond the immediate walls of the showcase and the studio, Rockman also hopes that the impact of his photography will transcend into the future legacy of the studios. “I hope the legacy of my photography around the studio is that it shows what Abbey Road feels like today,” he continued.

“The building has so much history, but it’s also full of life every day, and I’ve tried to capture the real atmosphere of people creating, working, and collaborating,” Rockman said. “If someone looks back at these images in the future, I want them to see the energy in the rooms, the musicians coming through, and the moments that usually go unnoticed.”

Now, Rockman is part of Abbey Road’s history, which is an immense source of pride for the photographer. “If my photos help tell that story and show what this place was like during the time I was there, then I’ll be happy with what I contributed,” he added.

Rockman’s photography exhibition is open for one day only at Abbey Road Studios in London on January 13th, 2026.
