Sony Pictures is bringing back the suits and the shades with the announcement that they are set to release a fifth Men in Black movie. Will Smith is reportedly in talks to reprise his iconic role.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps; however, as per Deadline, Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner is on board to pen the next instalment in the beloved alien world.

As soon as Bremner is finished with the script, Smith should be one of the first to receive it, in the hopes that he can reprise the role of Agent J. His character is planned to reappear in the first draft, though it is not clear whether this might be in the form of a smaller, supporting role.

However, Deadline’s sources suggest that Smith will not commit to anything before he reads the script and gives his seal of approval.

Nonetheless, all signs look promising as Bremner has recently become the go-to writer for Smith-led efforts. He penned the action thriller Fast & Loose, which will reportedly be Smith’s next project.

Sony Pictures recently had success relaunching the Bad Boys franchise. The past two films have earned a collective $837.1 million at the global box office.

The first Men in Black movie was released in 1997, and followed a moody cop, played by Smith, who is recruited into a secret agency which polices extraterrestrial border control. In 2002, the lacklustre sequel was released, and was followed up with a third in 2012.

A fourth movie was released in 2019, and it centred Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth as new agents. It also featured Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson and Rebecca Ferguson, though it didn’t manage to garner great critical reception.
