Star Wars actor starring in its spin-off series, Ahsoka, has quit the show after fighting a pay battle with Disney

Claudia Black had played the role of Nightsister Klowthow in the first series of Ahsoka, but has now had to “bow out” of reprising her role in the upcoming second series over a pay dispute with the franchise’s parent company, Disney, she has revealed.

The actor stated her intentions not to return to the series in a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, claiming that the corporation was not paying her enough, given that she is a single mother, having to keep her life in Los Angeles afloat while filming in London.

“Well, I’m going to be transparent,” she told the publication. “They picked up season two, picked me up with it, and then Disney, which is structuring things differently these days, could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London.”

Black voiced her frustrations with Disney as she said they “could not, sadly, support a single mom.”

Despite the somewhat negative ending to her tenure on Ahsoka, the actor was quick to add that her decision was a difficult one, and that she personally contacted its showrunner Dave Filoni via email to thank him.

“I said, ‘What a ride’,” Black recalled. “Everyone like me who grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s has always been into the Star Wars universe, and it’s a very playful environment to work.”

Lucasfilm, the company responsible for producing Star Wars, has not yet commented publicly on the news of Black’s departure from the show.

The first series of Ahsoka premiered in 2023, with the second instalment now having wrapped filming and set to be released in the autumn of 2026. It is not known if the plot will change on account of Black’s character leaving the show.
