Massive Attack have announced plans to release new music in 2026, which won’t be available on Spotify.

It will be the first new release from the Bristol trip-hop pioneers since their Euotopia EP in 2020. Their last full-length studio album, Heligoland, arrived in 2010

Now, the band have taken to Instagram to share with fans, “From next year we will release a cache of work created in the recent past.”

The message continued, “Tracks will be available physically and digitally via a new label with a Spotify exception.”

Their decision to not make their upcoming new releases available on Spotify is little surprise, considering they recently announced their intention to leave the Swedish streaming platform.

In September, they shared on social media: “In light of the (reported) significant investments by it’s CEO in a company producing military munition drones & Al technology integrated into fighter aircraft, Massive Attack have made a separate request to our label that our music be removed from the Spotify streaming service in all territories.”

Helsing, the company that Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek, invested in, responded to these claims by clarifying, “Our technology is deployed to European countries for deterrence and for defence against the Russian aggression in Ukraine only.”

In their previous statement, Massive Attack also condemned Spotify’s treatment of artists, writing, “The economic burden that has long been placed on artists is now compounded by a moral & ethical burden, whereby the hard-earned money of fans & the creative endeavours of musicians ultimately funds lethal, dystopian technologies.”

As it stands, Massive Attack’s back catalogue remains available to stream on Spotify, but their future releases will seemingly not be.

Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that Massive Attack would play Primavera Sound in Barcelona next summer, alongside The Cure, Gorillaz, Doja Cat, The XX, Wet Leg, My Bloody Valentine, Big Thief, and more.
