‘Toy Story 5’ trailer reveals tech villain ahead of upcoming movie

Pixar have released a new teaser trailer for the fifth installment in the Toy Story universe, which unveils a smart tablet that threatens the toys’ life as they know it.

In the newly released short snippet for Toy Story 5, the toys appear restless and anxious as a special delivery comes to the house.

When the delivery is unboxed, the toys are met with a smart tablet, which says, “Hi there! I’m Lilypad. Let’s play!” The trailer asks, “The age of toys is over…?”

The synopsis of the film reads, “In the teaser, fans are introduced to the new character Lilypad, a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they have to go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.”

It continues, “Tom Hanks returns as the ever loyal cowboy Woody, Tim Allen reports for duty as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack saddles up again as the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie. It was recently announced that Conan O’Brien will also be a part of the voice cast as the toilet training tech toy, Smarty Pants.”

The new film will hit cinemas nationwide on June 19th, 2026. It is directed by the Academy Award-winning creative, Andrew Stanton, whose previous projects include WALL•E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory. Stanton co-wrote all four of the previous films. He is credited as the sole screenwriter on Toy Story 5.

This project will be Pixar’s 31st feature. Their last, Elio, released on June 20th, only grossed $152 million at the global box office. However, Inside Out 2, released in 2024, grossed over $1.5 billion and was the highest-grossing film of the year.

The first Toy Story was released in 1995. It was the first ever fully computer-animated feature film.
