Gorillaz share Idles collaboration, ‘The God of Lying’

Gorillaz have shared their new collaboration with Idles, ‘The God of Lying’.
The new single, which features Idles frontman Joe Talbot on vocals, is the second single to be released from Gorillaz’s forthcoming album, The Mountain, which is scheduled to arrive on March 20th, 2026.
When Gorillaz previewed The Mountain at a phone-free concert at London’s Copper Box in September, they were joined by Talbot to premiere ‘The God of Lying’. Other special guests, who appear on the album, that performed in London include Sparks, Johnny Marr, Paul Simonon and Black Thought.
Gorillaz’ 2D says of the new track, “Can I tell you a secret? Doubt is very tiring but questioning things is really good for you.”
On ‘The God of Lying’, Talbot poses questions to the listener, asking, “Are you happy with your housing?Are you climbing up the walls? Are you deafened by the headlines, or does your head not hear at all?”
Earlier this week, Damon Albarn explained how he and Jamie Hewlett both lost their fathers, which shaped the new record.
He shared, “We did two quite amazing, magical trips to India. India is a very interesting place to carry grief, because they have a very positive outlook on death. England is just really bad at dealing with death.”
Albarn continued, “In a way, I think this record is in that tradition of celebrating their lives. I did things I’d never done before. I swam in the Ganges in Varanasi. I watched the bodies being burnt on the banks of the Ganges.”
Next year, Gorillaz will take The Mountain on an arena tour across the UK and Ireland before headlining a string of festivals, including Primavera Sound.
