The Cure have announced the release of a new live album, Songs of a Live World: Troxy London MMXXIV, as a companion to the recent release of their 14th studio album, Songs of a Lost World.
Recorded at famed London venue Troxy on November 1st in celebration of the album’s launch, the live performance sees the British rock group play their latest release in full, alongside 23 other songs from their much-loved back catalogue.
The live album, mixed by the band’s frontman Robert Smith, will be released on December 13th and available on physical formats and digital streaming platforms. The performance itself was also captured on film and streamed live on YouTube, where it will remain available for fans to watch.
The band have announced that all profit from sales of the album will be donated to independent charity War Child, which focuses efforts on providing aid to children affected by conflict across the globe.
Songs of a Lost World was the band’s first studio album in 16 years, following their previous effort 4:13 Dream in 2008. The album has been incredibly successful, receiving critical acclaim and becoming their highest charting release since 1992’s Wish, reaching number one in the UK and number four in the US.
In a four-star review, Far Out said of the album: “In Songs Of A Lost World, the exquisite guitar work and meticulously produced rhythmic cadences complement all the unspoken words, revealing a more immersive side to The Cure, where the haunt of a perturbed mind lingers in the subtleties. Ambience is a prominent force in modern music, and here its vagueness is anything but background.”
The Troxy show that was captured for the live release also saw the band perform a five-song medley of tracks from their second album, Seventeen Seconds, with a number of favourites such as ‘In Between Days’, ‘Lullaby’ and ‘Close to You’ between the full album performance and the medley, as well as in the encore.
The Cure have not officially announced any future live dates in support of their new album, but it has been reported that they will embark on a worldwide tour in 2025 to perform both songs from their latest release alongside a collection of hits.
Having previously toured in 2022 and 2023, The Cure currently have no plans to tour in support of their latest album. However, 2025 marks their 50th anniversary, which would provide the perfect excuse to tour.
