The release date for the new Netflix series Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro, has been announced. The programme will arrive early next year on February 20th, 2025.

Zero Day marks the first regular television project De Niro has starred in and executive produced, although he has appeared as himself on several shows and played criminal Bernie Madoff in the television film The Wizard of Lies. Last year, he also starred in the streaming series Nada alongside Luis Brandoni, which aired on Disney+.

Netflix describes Zero Day as a conspiracy thriller that “asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?”

“And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge,” the logline continues, “how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?” The series will delve into those questions across six episodes, with De Niro set to star as a former president who runs the Zero Day Commission.

He will be joined by a star-studded cast that includes Angela Bassett, Jesse Plemons and Lizzy Caplan. De Niro and Bassett previously worked together on The Score in the early 2000s, while Plemons and De Niro shared the screen more recently in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

The series has been created by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, while Lesli Linka Glatter is set to direct the entire series. Glatter has previously worked on HBO’s beloved Mad Men, David Lynch’s strange series Twin Peaks, and, more recently, Love & Death.

A trailer for the series is yet to be unveiled, but the release date is now set for February 20th, 2025.

De Niro’s other upcoming projects

In the meantime, De Niro has a number of feature film projects also in the works. He is set to take on two starring roles in Barry Levinson’s new crime flick Alto Knights, playing both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. Debra Messing is also set to appear in the film, which is expected to hit cinemas next spring.

Furthermore, De Niro is working on Tin Soldier, a new thriller from Brad Furman. Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott Eastwood, is set to star alongside De Niro and British popstar Rita Ora. Tin Soldier has yet to receive a confirmed release date.
