The Maccabees to reunite in 2025

After previously returning to social media earlier this week, The Maccabees have confirmed they will reunite in 2025.
On October 23rd, The Maccabees set up a Tik-Tok account and posted a video of themselves performing hit song ‘Pelican’ at Glastonbury Festival in 2015. Furthermore, they also reset their profile picture across social media, which sent the rumour mill into overdrive regarding their return.
Now, in a new post on X, they have encouraged fans to sign up to their mailing list, and shared that an official announcement would be coming on October 28th regarding their plans for 2025.
Further pouring fuel onto the fire, the band’s guitarist Hugo White reposted The Maccabees’ latest cryptic message on X along with the caption, “2025 (eyes emoji) X”. His brother, Felix White, used the same emoji while quoting a post by The Maccabees on October 23rd.
At this stage, it remains to be seen what the announcement will entail, but it’ll most likely be a series of tour dates or a one-off concert.
The Maccabees’ final album, Marks To Prove It, became their first number one record upon release in 2015. However, despite being at the peak of their powers, the London group announced their decision to part ways a year later, and then proceeded to embark on a farewell tour in 2017 which concluded with three huge concerts at Alexandra Palace in London.
While speaking exclusively with Far Out in 2022, The Maccabees frontman Orlando Weeks said of the band’s last concerts, “I think the way that we drew a line under everything — our final shows felt very final. I feel it would be strange to undermine that experience, so I think it would be very unlikely.”
Weeks also touched upon the mental strain of saying goodbye to the band, adding, “It wasn’t heavy in a dark way, but, just heavy. It was a lot to process, and I think we did ourselves extremely proud, as did the people who were fans of what we did. After the shows, I got straight on an aeroplane to France with my partner and stayed there for a little while, just to take myself out of the norm. It was a lot to try and understand and to have gone through with those people.”
However, during another conversation with Far Out earlier this year, Weeks explained how he was planning to initiate a song by The Maccabees into his upcoming tour, which suggested he was open to revisiting that chapter of his career.
Before the run of dates began, he shared: “I think I’m going to play a Maccabees song, I’m not sure what yet. It’ll be nice to see how it feels. I might do it on the first night and not enjoy it, but it feels far enough away. I asked the boys if they would mind, and they didn’t mind at all.”
What have The Maccabees done since their split?
Weeks has established a triumphant solo career since The Maccabees split, most recently releasing the stunning LOJA in June. In a four-and-a-half star review, Far Out wrote of the LP: “Loja is the sum of Weeks’ long and winding road. It captures not only the brilliance of The Gritterman, A Quickening and Hop Up, which each took massive strides forward for him as an artist, but also the journey Weeks has experienced as a man.”
The review continues: “No longer the shiny-faced young adult with a collar so tightened to the top one feared his head might pop off, Weeks is now creating records that act as maps to the landscape of his adult life.”
Meanwhile, Hugo and Felix White have also remained committed to making music. After many years of secret rehearsals in Wandsworth, they started their new band, 86TVs, who released their debut album in the summer.
Outside of his work with 86TVs, Hugo has made a name for himself as a producer, working on records such as Jamie T’s The Theory of Whatever and The Magic Gang’s eponymous debut. Additionally, Felix has recorded the film scores for the sports documentaries, The Edge and McEnroe. He’s also the co-host of hit cricket podcast, Tailenders.
