Harrison Ford has revealed why he is still acting at 82 years old, citing human connection and collaboration.

Ford rose to acclaim in the late 1970s when he landed a starring role as Han Solo in George Lucas’ original Star Wars film. Since then, he has continually reaffirmed his presence as a blockbuster lead, starring as Indiana Jones in the franchise of the same name and as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner.

Decades after he first entered the industry, Ford is still adding to his mammoth filmography each year. He has reprised the roles of Han Solo and Indiana Jones several times, most recently in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Ford has also added a slew of new titles to his CV over the last decade or so, including credits in the romance flick The Age of Adaline and the animated sequel The Secret Life of Pets 2. Most recently, he has stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an appearance in the upcoming Captain America film, Brave New World.

The actor has also ventured further into television over the past few years, starring in Paramount+’s 1923 and Apple TV+’s Shrinking. While speaking about the latter during a conversation with Vanity Fair, Ford explained why he continues to act, sharing his love for the collaboration it brings him.

“Oh man, I get out of it essential human contact, Ford explained, “I get to imagine with people that have great skill and experience…” On Shrinking, for example, Ford works alongside American comedy staple Jason Segel and experienced television producer Bill Lawrence.

Ford has worked with several other impressive collaborators in his recent endeavours, including Helen Mirren in 1923 and Denis Villeneuve and Ryan Gosling on Blade Runner 2049. It’s easy to see why he is still so motivated to continue working within the industry and to collaborate with the talented people within it. “It’s fun to work with these people,” Ford enthused.

Ford’s contributions to the industry, and particularly to Disney, were recently recognised with a Disney Legends award. During his acceptance speech, Ford showed similar appreciation for his collaborators. “I love the life you’ve given me,” he shared, “I love the people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with.”

The second season of Shrinking kicks off on October 16th, 2024, on Apple TV+.
