Shirley Manson provides health update following Garbage tour cancellation

After Garbage axed their scheduled dates for the rest of 2024, singer Shirley Manson has elaborated on her health issues with led to the cancellation.
Following the conclusion of Garbage’s European tour, which included a huge show at the Wembley Arena in London, the band took to social media to announce the cancellation of their remaining 2024 tour dates including shows in Mexico City, California, and Washington DC.
They stated that an injury sustained by Manson was the reason for the cancellation, but didn’t provide any specific details. However, Garbage ensured fans they would return to the road in 2025, suggesting that Manson’s problems were not a long-term issue.
Now, a week after the cancellation, Manson has taken to the band’s social media to reveal it related to laryngitis, which was not as severe as she expected. Reassuring fans, the singer explained: “I returned home from tour an absolute hot mess. So broken that my poor husband had to push me through Heathrow and LAX airports in a wheelchair. I also had a dose of laryngitis and a massive cold sore on my lip.”
Manson also shared a graphic image of her vocal cords which she initially thought was damaged but thankfully that proved not to be the case, adding, “I was freaking out that I had somehow managed to damage my vocal cords on top of everything else but yesterday I was scoped and everything is as it should be.”
Currently, Garbage have no shows scheduled in the calendar and the cancelled concerts have not been rearranged, but as previously promised by the band, they will play live extensively in 2025. The band’s most recent album was 2021’s No Gods No Masters, but earlier this year, the group revealed they had been working on new music in the studio.
On a less positive note, during an interview with the BBC last month, Manson stated that “time is running out” for the group, and hinted at a possible retirement in the next few years.
“Life is so precious,” she said. “The older I get the more I enjoy life, I understand time is running out on me and it has allowed me to enjoy a sense of urgency, to harness it and put into my work. I don’t know how much longer we can go on and do this.”
Manson added: “I’m the youngest member of the band and I’m turning 58 in a couple of weeks. So we are just enjoying every moment right now.”
