A new documentary focused on Elton John‘s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is set to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The project will be titled Elton John: Never Too Late, after the pop star’s song of the same name.

Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 5th to September 15th, 2024. The festival has now announced its first titles for this year’s edition of the festival, including The Life of Chuck starring Mark Hamill and Tom Hiddleston, Nightbitch with Amy Adams, and the new Elton John documentary.

The documentary, which has been directed by John’s husband, David Furnish, will provide a new look at John both on stage and behind the scenes. It will feature unseen live footage from throughout his career, as well as more recent glimpses at John’s current life.

The documentary will focus particularly on John’s final tour, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which lasted almost five years. After kicking things off in the United States in the autumn of 2018, John embarked upon hundreds of dates across the world.

Postponements caused by Covid-19 and injuries impacted the tour, which finally came to an end last summer in Sweden. The tour included a particularly momentous headline set at Glastonbury Festival in 2023, which attracted the largest overnight audience at the festival in its history. It also marked his final show in the United Kingdom.

Following the mammoth success of John’s headline slot last year, the 2024 edition of the festival will see popstar Dua Lipa, British pop-rockers Coldplay, R&B singer SZA and country-pop legend Shania Twain take to the Pyramid Stage.

Below the headliners, the lineup is just as stacked as ever. It includes indie rockers like LCD Soundsystem and The National, dance staples Disclosure and Jamie xx, and British rapper Little Simz.

Meanwhile, John is also gearing up to release a new album. Though the pop legend may have stepped back from touring, his long-term songwriting partner Bernie Taupin has suggested that a new studio record has been completed.

While at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, John suggested that their new album would “surprise the shit” out of listeners, perhaps hinting at a new direction for the legendary pop duo.

Elton John: Never Too Late will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Following this, it will become available to stream on Disney+ at a currently unannounced date.
